PRESTON slipped to fourth place in the Northern Premier League table despite enjoying a two wicket victory at Barrow.

A six wicket haul for Manoj Parekh (6/34) restricted the home side to 148.

Preston lost eight wickets in pursuit but an unbeaten 61 from Parvez Shah saw them home to take 12 points.

Leyland Motors remain second from bottom after they were well beaten at Netherfield.

Batting first Netherfield scored 264 for the loss of 5 wickets.

Craig Walmsley, opening the batting, scored 123 before being one of Iqbal Lilly's four victims. Lilly returned impressive figures of 4 for 48 off 14.

Motors could only muster 116 in reply with Ashraf top scoring with 53 to take two points from the match.

Leyland had no game at the weekend and so remain rooted at the foot of the table 12 points adrift of Motors.

It was a good weekend for the league's crop of teenage players which augers well for the inter-league fixtures.

Blackpool's Stephen Croft has been in fine form with bat and ball and scored 43 on Saturday.

Meanwhile at Chorley 19-year-old Tom Smith has been in equally as good form with the bat.

On Saturday he hit an impressive 107 against Fleetwood off 166 balls including 15 fours.

With the ball 16-year-old leg spinner Guarav Dhar took 3 for 10 off 7 overs, two of which were maidens.

Preston have two home matches over the bank holiday weekend hosting Blackpool on Saturday and St Annes on Monday.

Leyland visit Fleetwood on Saturday while Motors have no match.

Monday sees Leyland versus Leyland Motors at Fox Lane.
