MORECAMBE motor bike racer Glyn Ormerod saw his lead in the New Era Superclub 600 series slip away in rounds four and five of the championship at Cadwell Park, Linconshire, at the weekend, writes Maria Salt.

Glyn was sitting proudly at the top of the table with 135 points - four points ahead of Rick Ellis (131) and Steve Tomes (119) - after three meetings.

But an error in race one followed by two mechanical failures left him struggling home well down the field to lose his championship lead.

The first race on Saturday was a stop-start affair as accidents twice halted the racing.

Despite the disruption, Glyn rode well to take the lead before making an error under pressure and eventually finishing third.

Determined to improve, Glyn pushed himself and his bike to the limits to score an emphatic victory in the afternoon event and set himself up perfectly for the Sunday races.

The promise of another succes-=sful day was spoiled as a faulty throttle sensor limited the machine to 10,000rpm and lost Glyn 50mph down the straights in race one, leaving him to struggle home in ninth place.

In race two he burst from ninth on the grid to hold an excellent third place before his gear change sheared off in a close tangle with second placed Rick Ellis, leaving him in fourth gear for the rest of the race.

Glyn could only watch as rider after rider passed him and his overall lead slipped away.

o Races six and seven in the series are at Snetterton on July 10 and 11.
