HAVE I lost the plot here, so far as the current prime issue in Bury goes? The general public, from my understanding, are complaining not of recycling but about the reduced bi-weekly collection of their grey bins.
Politicians, however, see this as an excuse to plumb new depths in criticising the public.
Councillor Boden, for example (Letters, May 21) attacks those people who find recycling a hassle, and Coun Stella Smith complained of people's "ignorance" of green issues, as if understanding the principle of recycling required a PhD, or at least membership of the Labour Party.
Telling the public that they're wrong, and that they do not understand anything complex, precipitates the sort of patronising comments we have come to expect from Bury's political leaders, directed at anyone who dares to question them.
Most people are not ignorant of green issues and wish to play their part in reducing landfill. However, they also rightly expect that their normal refuse will be collected alongside the recyclables on a weekly basis.
