AS secretary of Darwen Swimming Club I am writing to express our sorrow at the death of the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Coun Michael Barrett.
He and his wife came to our Annual Gala last May (the day after his inauguration) on possibly their first official engagement, to present medals and trophies to our swimmers.
He seemed genuinely interested in the way our club operates and brought his two grandsons along to watch the events. It made the evening special for all our members, and we will always remember him with affection. We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his wife Moira at this sad time.
