STAFF, pupils and parents at a primary school are celebrating after being given national recognition for promoting sport.

Two celebratory sports days will be held at Bradley primary school next week after the school was awarded an Activemark award from Sport England.

The award, given to 157 primary schools across the country, recognises schools which encourage their pupils to keep fit and active and will be valid for three years.

Headteacher Richard O'Sullivan said: "The Activemark is recognition of our commitment to providing excellent provision for physical activity at Bradley.

"Parents and pupils all recognise that a healthy, fit child is going to be happy and more likely to do well at school."

Sport England acting chief executive Roger Draper said: "These schools have shown a dedication to bring PE and sport to the fore of the school's focus and have encouraged their pupils to be active both in and out of lessons."

Parents are invited to celebrate the award at two sports days.

The day for the infants will be held on June 22 and the junior event will be held on June 24. Both start at 1.30pm.
