THE number of homeless people and families trapped in temporary accommodation in the North West has reached a new high of over 2,800 - an increase of 32 per cent on the previous year - according to new Government figures.
Adam Sampson, director of homelessness charity Shelter, said: "There's a greater need for affordable housing, yet output of new social housing is at a record low.
"The consequence is thousands of families trapped in temporary accommodation with devastating impact on their health, education and future prospects."
