Kal Ho Naa Ho, a romantic drama starring Shah Rukh Khan, scooped eight honours at the International Indian Film Awards, the subcontinent's version of the Oscars, in Singapore.
No other film won more than two honours at the event. But Shah Rukh lost out in the leading actor category to Hritik Roshan, who won for science fiction movie Koi Mil Gaya, directed by the movie's other winner of the night - Rakesh Roshan. Preity Zinta won the best actress award for her role as Shah Rukh's love interest in Kal Ho Naa Ho, the story of a dying man seeking love in New York.
Fans queued outside Singapore Indoor Stadium for hours in sweltering heat to catch a glimpse of the stars of Indian cinema. The awards presentation ended a three-day festival that included a celebrity soccer game, a forum on the globalisation of Bollywood, and at least four film premieres.
