A NEW programme has been launched to change the way Greater Manchester Police deals with diversity in race, sexuality, disability and gender.
The 'Respect Programme' extends the work of Operation Catalyst, GMP's response to the 1999 report into the death of Stephen Lawrence.
The initiative reflects GMP's commitment to be open, transparent and accessible to all in its efforts.
Deputy Chief Constable Alan Green said: "Following last year's Secret Policeman television programme, which was met with shock within the force, we challenged what had already been done to tackle not only racism, but all types of prejudice.
"It may be an uncomfortable journey, but if it isn't, then it probably isn't worth making. There is no place in GMP for discriminatory behaviour."
