A 20-YEAR-OLD man who subjected a victim to a late night beating was given a 12 months conditional discharge.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Rizwan Asghar, 20, punched Vincent Creaney and the victim was then kicked while he was on the ground.

Asghar, of Halifax Road, Brierfield, currently serving an eight month jail term for indecent assault on a schoolgirl, admitted assault by beating.

Julie Reddish, prosecuting, told the court Mr Creaney was walking home with a friend from a night out in Burnley. When they got to Brierfield one of two lads crossed the road, shouted at him and hit him.

Mr Creaney was then kicked on the ground and the defendant accepted kicking him. Police arrived and Mr Creaney and his friend were taken out in a police car and identified Asghar. The victim suffered bruising and a two centimetre haemotoma above his left eyebrow.

Paul Wood, defending, said Asghar, who claimed Mr Creaney struck him, went over the top if he was defending himself.
