MOTORISTS will face road closures in Atherton as roadworks begin to construct a new roundabout.
The A577 Wigan Road will be closed for a month between Lovers Lane and Atherleigh Way as work is carried out to install the roundabout at the junction of the A579 and Atherleigh Way.
Beginning on Monday, June 21, it is expected that the work will cause minimal disruption as temporary diversions will be put in place.
The road closure is necessary for the safety of road users and construction workers.
Traffic signals on Atherleigh Way will be adjusted to allow extra traffic wishing to turn right on to Lovers' Lane.
With traffic diverted, Wigan Council will also take the opportunity to carry out resurfacing work on Wigan Road, which will last the same length of time as the main project.
