PUDDIN' on the style! That is Radcliffe woman Debbie Pierce whose Bury Black Pudding Company has been crowned most successful new business.

Debbie (34), scooped the award and £2,000 prize money at the inaugural North Manchester Business Awards held at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton.

The dot.com company and retail business supplies and sells the local delicacy to individuals and shops. The company was launched from Debbie's home just two years ago on a shoestring budget of £1,000.

Since then, the business has boomed, with turnover soaring and customers increasing. Debbie's biggest breakthrough came when she won a contract to supply black puddings to Asda. Now, 17 of its stores stock her product.

Company production team Jack and Richard Morris have won gold medals for their traditional black pudding recipe which dates back more than 100 years. Locally, the puddings are available from a stall on Bury Market and from a shop in Farnworth.

Debbie's business dream began some years ago. While working at a farmers market selling the puddings, Debbie was amazed at how many people would visit from all over the country to buy the local delicacy.

With the launch of the dot.com revolution, the ambitious businesswoman kept thinking how the Internet could tap into a huge market of potential customers.

The prospect of going it alone kept stopping her. But when friend -- and later business partner -- Charlotte Butterworth, bought Debbie the website domain name and told her to "follow your dreams," she decided to take the plunge.

Debbie said: "Winning the prize is absolutely fantastic. When you slog your guts out every day, it's nice to be recognised in such a way."

More than 500 guests attended the first-ever North Manchester Business Awards, organised by Bolton Business Ventures. One hundred and ten companies from Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale and Wigan entered the competition. Prize money of £37,000 and trophies were up for grabs.
