COLNE BL did their near neighbours Colne Cricket a good turn by beating the Cricketers' joint rivals at the top of the Thwaites East Lancs Premier League, Bolton's Bar Lane, 10-4 in the shock result of the season.
Marshall, 21-9, did the business for the Legioners, to inflict a heavy defeat on the Bolton outfit and seriously dent their championship hopes.
Mark Yarnold, 21-8, was the best for the Lane, who remain top due to the late cancellation of the Cricketers' fixture and now must wonder whether they have got the staying power with the season not yet half way completed.
In the Burnley derby game the Saints went marching on with a 12-2 away win at their neighbours Greenhill. The score did not reflect the closeness of the game, but there will be no sympathy given by St Andrew's who have now narrowed the points difference between the top and themselves to 11. McClaren, 21-14, was the best for St Andrew's and Cullens, 21-20, being the only positive reply for Greenhill.
Turton came close at 'two gates,' narrowly losing 102 chalks to 90, and the game 8-6, a scoreline which the villagers will draw more satisfaction from than champion contenders Darwen Subs.
Haslam's 21-6 for the Subs and Mort's 21-4 for Turton were the best but Subs' home form must now be causing concern if the Darwen outfit are going to be serious contenders for this year's title.
Accrington's Globe continued their surge with a hard fought 10-4 win over visitors East Lancs.
The win now puts them one point behind second placed Colne Cricket and five behind the leaders.
Everall's 21-8 did the business for the Globe while Brett's 21-11 was the best for the visitors.
Fixtures for Sunday June 20, 11am start: R Utility v E Lancs; St Andrew's v Colne Cricket; Turton v Greenhill; Bar Lane v Darwen Subs; Colne BL v Globe.

Alexandra fail to
halt their rivals
HOT FORM: Brian Duncan was at his best for Brownedge
LOCAL team Alexandra failed in their bid to stop Brownedge on their relentless run towards the Super League championship when they were defeated 4-2 on home turf.
The visitors took the honours in both halves of the match as Linden Carr, 21-16, and Andrew Harley, 21-12, opened the scoring to make it 2-1 at the half way stage.
After the break Brian Duncan, 21-13, and Tom Fishwick, 21-18, completed the job for Brownedge, who on current form look unstoppable.
Although the Alex were disappointed, they did not go down without a fight and were not too far away from taking at least a share of the spoils. Kevin Thompson was their star performer as he turned in a cracking display to win 21-10.
Captain Brian Tomlinson came under pressure at 16-12 down but recovered to win 21-18. Peter Renwick and Alan Clark gave a good account of themselves but in the end were edged out by a handful of points.
Great Harwood maintained their hopes of the title when they demolished visitors Lostock Hall 6-0.
Captain Stuart Gall, 21-12, scored the first point followed by Ray Turner and Glynn Dodd, both 21-17, to give them a 3-0 lead at the interval.
The second half was a landslide led by Tony Dobson, 21-9, Malcolm Wensley, 21-11, and Norman Hill, who made a welcome guest appearance, 21-10.
Nice to see Rose 'n Bowl gain success on the road, especially on the tricky surface of Frenchwood. Frank Herbert, 21-15, and captain Geoff Alderson, 21-17, set them on their way in the opening spell.
The rest of the games were very close but John Melling, 21-20 and John Tattersall, 21-19, came from behind to seal a well deserved victory 4-2.
Witton drew a blank from their trip to St Annes who fielded a very strong team with high hopes of a top three prize, but Graham Lang pursued Paul Wilson all the way to the wire in a thrilling game that ended 21-19.
Results: Alexandra 2, Brownedge 4; Birches 3, Farington 3; Frenchwood 2, Rose 'n Bowl 4; Great Harwood 6, Lostock Hall 0; St Annes 6, Witton 0.
Fixtures for Sunday June 20: Birches v Brownedge; Farington v Great Harwood; Frenchwood v Lostock Hall; Rose 'n Bowl v St Annes; Witton v Alexandra.

Hoyle and Prescott in Classic clash
THE Alexandra Classic, sponsored by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and Scottish and Newcastle Pub Enterprises, is now underway with the opening sessions of play.
Each session includes three 3-up matches between four competitors who compete for a place in the last 16.
As expected, the tournament has a full compliment of 64 players entered.
All the rounds are played on Saturday and Sunday evenings, 6.30pm start, and will be staged under the usual format of rules.
Once again there is an interesting balance of entries that include many of the local top bracket and some of the best known bowlers in the game. No doubt this is sure to provide some intriguing and exciting match ups as the competition reaches its climax in three months time.
Indeed the first session on the programme last weekend gave spectators and supporters plenty to cheer.
The major clash on Sunday between Mick Prescott from Chorley and homester David Hoyle was a cracking contest.
After a tentative start both men got into their stride and drew clear at various stages until the scores peeled at 30-30. Although David was the home favourite it was Mick who delivered the all important winner to squeeze home 31-30.
On Saturday Rolf Horton played very consistent in both rounds as he despatched Alan Lancaster from Rochdale 31-19 and then held on to defeat Matt Gillis 31-27.

Harley
in front
ANOTHER excellent away performance by top man Andrew Harley has taken him three points clear in the Evalast merit competition to 15 points.
His successes have been quite outstanding, underlined by a massive total aggregate score plus 95.
But there are plenty of points still to be won before the prizes are decided and an array of very capable players are in the chasing group..
The best of the local men to move up the leaderboard this week were Great Harwood duo Stuart Gall and Ray Turner who are in a good seam of form at present. Kevin Thompson has provided some steel to the Alex middle order and his latest four wins from four starts has been a revelation. Team mate Alan Clark has also done well despite a reverse home score last week.
Rose 'n Bowl captain Geoff Alderson is enjoying his best ever campaign and is in ninth place overall. Despite his first defeat in over a month Roy Preston remains in pole position at Witton.
Leaderboard: A Harley (Brownedge) 15pts, 94 total; L Carr (Brownedge) 12, 57; T Wood (St Annes) 12, 35; D Barnish (Brownedge) 11, 29; S Gall (Gt Hwd) 11, 26; R Turner (Gt Hwd) 11, 24; D Webster (Birches) 11, 22; T Fishwick (Brownedge) 10, 37; G Alderson (Rose 'n Bowl) 10. 30; D Hoyle (Alex) 10, 28; K Thompson (Alex) 10, 26; D Darley (Brownedge) 10, 21; B Oakes (Birches) 9, 51; J Neville (Brownedge) 9, 46; A Clark (Alex) 9, 25; B Tomlinson (Alex) 9, 21; J Chatwin (Gt Hwd) 9, 14; D Yeadon (St Annes) 9, 11; G Dodd (Gt Hwd) 9, 9; M Birtwistle (Farington) 9, 3; M Fleming (St Annes) 8, 63; A Lancaster (Birches) 8, 47; S Kenyon (Frenchwood) 8, 31; N Kershaw (Birches) 8, 17; B Sowerby (Birches) 8, 15; S Edwards (Frenchwood) 8, 13; C Pickup (Farington) 8, level; D Holding (Farington) 7, 28; F Herbert (Rose 'n Bowl) 8, 22.
