I WRITE regarding the regular abuse of people enjoying the sunshine in Bury's Kay Gardens.

There is a hard-core of alcoholics in the gardens every day and the police seem unable, or unwilling, to deal with the problem.

I often sit there to rest after shopping and, together with a friend, was recently enjoying the hottest day of the year when we were interrupted by the continually disgusting behaviour and language of drunken men and women.

We asked the police for help but they just gave them a ticking-off which, of course, they celebrated with offensive gestures towards us.

I have had 13 happy years here but these people are a disgusting blot on Bury's landscape. With the town thriving, the planned development of The Rock, and the popular market and East Lancs Railway both bringing in lots of visitors, it would be a great shame for it all to be spoiled by this sort of behaviour in the town centre.
