I DON'T understand the attitude of the prominent member of the Kashmiri Association who felt that if something didn't come from the search of the Lower Audley Tyre Centre it would damage race relations in Blackburn.

The search, we assume, was carried out under a legal search warrant which would need to be supported by enough information to at least raise a question or questions that needed to be answered.

In the event, the tyre centre was given a clean bill of health. Why should it in any way damage race relations? Only someone determined to cause trouble is likely to damage race relations.

If citizens of Blackburn regardless of race, creed or colour were killed by material found to have been stored at this tyre centre and the authorities had not acted for fear of upsetting someone, do we assume the authorities would be judged blameless for not acting?

If nothing is found then it's a reason for joy, not anger. I just can't see how action to prevent death and destruction can be seen as 'damaging.'
