A TROUPE of glam girls will be adding extra spice to match day entertainment at Deepdale this season.

The PNE Lillies will mingle with fans at this Saturday's home game against Watford and plan to develop their act to incorporate an American-style cheerleading song and dance routine.

Currently 17 women, aged 18-32, make up the troupe but football chiefs are looking to boost the number to 30.

They will be a permanent fixture at home matches in a bid to pull in the crowd at Deepdale where attendances were below average in last season's first division.

"We hope the girls will help to increase crowd levels," said Steve Jackson, PNE chief executive.

"If we look at last season's first division, the teams that had a bigger crowd attendance did better in the league, while those who did worse in the league, had a poorer crowd attendance.

"Fans are very important to us and their support seems to be vital in boosting player performance."

All the PNE Lillies have all been given names in keeping with the Lily and will wear a customised uniform, with matching merchandise available in the PNE shop.

One PNE Lillie, from Preston, is urging fans to come down to Deepdale to size up the troupe for themselves.

"We all play the character of what our flower means," said the 24-year-old, known only as 'Snowdrop'.

"The meaning of my flower is lust, so fans are in for a fun time.

"But we're all really friendly and looking forward to meeting fans and their children."

Mr Jackson added: "For years the ever growing female fans at Deepdale have been treated to the sight of fit young lads running around the pitch and with the majority of our fanbase being male this is a chance to even up the balance.

"We can't guarantee three points every week but I am sure everyone one will agree that the PNE Lillies are winners whatever the score."
