YOUR readers may be aware that the Tory group on Wyre refused to allow debate at last week's full council in the "confidence" that members have in Cllr Vincent's running of Wyre Borough following the appalling CPA assessment.
Their reasoning was that it involved a personal attack on Tory leader, Cllr Vincent.
This, however, was never the case. It is not Cllr Vincent we are criticising but his wholly inadequate and damaging running of the council. The single biggest failing that is contained within the report is in its strategic leadership.
Indeed the CPA report details areas specifically related to the running of the council, such as: ambition for the district not articulated; corporate objectives not identified; Council not understanding its role in partnerships; no overall approach to addressing the need of communities; and most damning of all that strategic leadership within the organization is weak.
In the four years that Cllr Vincent has been leader he has seen almost an entire senior management team depart; sickness absence at record levels; staff morale at rock bottom and now an independent external inspection that has laid the blame directly on his leadership.
So if we are not allowed to criticize the leader who then is responsible?
I suggest that the Tory group on Wyre have a loyalty that is greater than to Cllr Vincent and that is to the residents of Wyre who elected them.
They deserve better and only through accepting that there is a problem and allowing this to be openly debated, will it actually be dealt with!
Cllr Clive Grunshaw, Harbour Way, Fleetwood
