POLICE are hunting offenders who caused more than £2,000 worth of damage by smashing windows in four shops in and around the Hough Lane area of Leyland.

Buchanan Shoes, Sue Ryder's charity shop, North West Domestics, all on Hough Lane and Swan Signs, Golden Hill Lane, all had windows kicked through in the early hours of Wednesday morning, September 8.

Police believe the same people are responsible for all four offences.

The charity shop, which is completely self-funding, had to pay £300 for a new window pane from cash it uses to help sick and disabled people.

Manager Mary Bean said: "That amount of money pays for someone's medication for a week."

"I was mortified when I saw it. This shop runs on the charity of other people and the goodwill of the 13 volunteers I have working here. This crime was mindless and I am disgusted someone has done it.

PC Zol Balasz, of Leyland police, said: "We believe the same people are responsible for all four crimes because it is too much of a coincidence for them all to happen in a small area and at similar times."

Anyone with information should contact Leyland police on 0845 125 35 45 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
