GUN crime is being targeted in a new Crimestoppers campaign.

The independent charity, which provides the free 0800 555 111 number through which people can report crimes anonymously, will today (Fri Sept 17) launch a UK-wide series of posters, postcard leaflets and educational resources for schools, highlighting the widespread impact of gun crime.

Last year, Greater Manchester suffered the highest number of serious gun crimes across the UK with 1,240 incidents.

Jane Reay, of Crimestoppers, said: "Gun crime in Britain has increased dramatically over the last five years and many of those closest to danger are often afraid to go to the police for fear of violent repercussions.

"Crimestoppers offers people a safe and unique outlet in which they can help save lives and make their communities safer without endangering themselves."
