ANGRY Oswaldtwistle residents have demanded that a developer building 80 new homes in their street cleans up its act.

People living in Roe Greave Road claim their homes and their cars are covered in thick dust.

They said the road is also a mess because of the heavy goods vehicles going to and from the site and are concerned because building work is due to continue for at least another 18 months.

More than 50 residents attended a recent meeting to discuss the problems they have been experiencing since work started in June and another is due to take place on Monday.

Pauline Bartram, 56, who lives in Roe Greave Road with her husband David, 58, claims her asthma had been made worse by the dust.

She said: "The dust from the wagons has been unbelievable - the outside of our houses are filthy, it is also getting inside the houses, our cars are filthy, and the road is a mess."

The site, which was formerly a mill and a scrap yard, is being developed by Elite Homes, and work to make it suitable for construction, which will end in December, has been undertaken by Woodford.

Stephen Gaskell from Elite Homes said: "Elite Homes and Woodford have taken every measure possible to keep residents happy during the work on the site.

"We have dropped letters round to residents to tell them we were starting work and to apologise for any inconvenience, we have been jet washing the wheels of wagons and cleaning the road every day.

"Woodford has kept the traffic down to a minimum by staggering them throughout the day."

He said, however, that the site manager would attend the meeting to li sten to people's concerns.

Hyndburn Council's planning department confirmed that it was aware of the residents' complaints and said an officer would also attend the meeting, which is being held at the Rhoden pub, in Roe Greave Road, on Monday(sept 20), at 7.30pm.
