STEVE Cotterill admits he is contemplating resting several of his stars for next week's Carling Cup clash with Wolves.

The second round tie at Turf Moor on Tuesday is sandwiched between today's tricky trip to Leicester City and next weekend's home clash with league leaders Stoke City.

And with two more league games coming up the following week for his weary charges, the Clarets chief acknowledges the time may have arrived to hand several youngsters a chance to impress.

Cotterill said: "Ideally I would like to be able to rest players and win every game, but we need to look at the Wolves game because it could cause us a headache further down the line.

"Maybe I might rest a couple of players there, but I don't know who or where and that's the awkward one.

"It's a tough call, because you want to win and progress in the competition and because we need the money.

"But in doing so we could fall foul in the coming weeks, when we have important league games coming up."

Cotterill does have one ace up his sleeve next week, with Jamaican midfielder Micah Hyde expected to return after serving his three-match ban.

That could allow Cotterill to juggle his midfield and hand teenage sensation Richard Chaplow a well-earned rest following his impressive displays so far.

And providing the Clarets finally obtain international clearance from the Italian FA, Cotterill might also be tempted to hand French trialist Amadou Sanokho a baptism of fire.

The former AC Sanguistese midfielder is still awaiting his chance after signing a short-term deal with the Clarets last week, along with fellow Frenchman Jean Louis Valois.

Cotterill, who admitted taking a gamble on both players, added: "Until the two new lads play, I won't know whether I've done well to bring them in because they are trialists.

"The proof is in the pudding. We signed them after three days because they looked like they had a bit of promise.

"We're not holding our breath, but we're hoping they could do well."

Burnley earned their place in round two of the Carling Cup with a 3-2 victory at Bury last month.

Clarets fans are reminded that admission for Tuesday's game in all areas is £15 adults and £5 concessions. Fans can also pay on the night.
