THIRTY cannabis plants were seized from a terrace house after police received a tip-off from local people.

A man and a woman were arrested at an address in Sarah Street, Darwen, when police issued a drugs warrant yesterday.

Officers described the plants as "high-potency skunk, ready for harvesting" and with a street value of "several thousand of pounds."

Police said the warrant was executed as a direct result of concerns raised at a local PACT (Police and Communities Together) panel meeting.

PS Ian Hanson, of Darwen Police, said: "Two people were arrested at the scene after a rapid forced entry to the property.

"Around 30 plants have been seized, plants that were ready for harvesting and that would have soon been on the streets.

"Special lighting units and irrigation equipment for the cultivation of cannabis have also been seized.

"This was not just the police acting on its own, though.

"It also involved the community beat managers and police community support officers responding to the concerns of the community.

"The raid has come as a direct result of concern raised by the local community about drug dealers operating in the area and is one of several that will be taking place over the coming weeks.

The PACT panels, which are being rolled out across the county, are meetings that take place in communities every four weeks.

They are held by the area's community beat manager and allow residents to raise concerns in their community and enable quick police action.

The man and the woman were being questioned by police.
