Nelson 0 Ashton Town 0

NELSON hit the woodwork twice during this NWCL Second Division clash at Victoria Park, but for most of the game both sides were firing blanks.

Visitors Ashton Town looked stronger than their bottom of the table position suggests, but they were lucky to escape after 18 minutes when Paul Barrett's close-range shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced on the goal line with the home side claiming a goal.

In the second half, Nelson's Robert Grimes brought a great save from keeper Andy Lingley, who palmed away his fierce shot from just under the Ashton crossbar after 63 minutes.

Brad Pates was unlucky to see his 25 yard free kick strike the post with Lingley beaten 10 minutes later.
