Great Harwood 0 Atherton Colls 3

GREAT Harwood Town's poor run of form continued with a crushing home defeat to fellow NWCL Division One strugglers Atherton Collieries.

An unmarked Jermaine Peters gave the visitors the lead from six yards on 15 minutes before Paul Mashiter saw two good penalty appeals waved away.

Two second-half strikes from Mark Jones and Nicky Fisher consigned Town to their fourth consecutive league defeat, leaving them languishing in 21st

place with only five points from their nine games.

Wrigley pounces to rescue point

Leek CSOB 1 Darwen 1

A LATE Russell Wrigley strike rescued a point for Darwen against lowly Leek at Harrison Park.

Alan Nagginton fired the Staffordshire side in front on 83 minutes after a swift counter-attack, however full back Wrigley netted five minutes later after latching onto a rebounded free kick.

Darwen boss Steve Mullen said: "While we are obviously glad to get something out of the game we should have won comfortably as we were camped in their half from start to finish.

"What did please me though was the way the lads kept their heads and showed good character to keep going until the very end."

Indeed, after the equaliser Steve Ross could have won the game for Darwen but failed to make the most of his chance, while Liam Taylor saw his effort rebounded back off the crossbar.
