I AM writing to urge people to join the Impeachment of Tony Blair for misleading us all about the evidence he had that Saddam and his weapons were a major threat.

I am dismayed that Hyndburn MP, Greg Pope, is prepared to support the Prime Minister when he so clearly misled us into war with Iraq.

Tony Blair told us over and over again that Saddam was a threat that had to be dealt with, when we now know that the intelligence services he claimed to rely on had only thin evidence -- in Lord Butler's words -- that Saddam had such weapons of mass destruction.

The British constitution requires that ministers must resign if they mislead Parliament and the country. We saw this when first Peter Mandelson and then the immigration minister, Beverley Hughes, resigned over quite trivial issues.

Mr Blair carries on as if nothing has happened, leaving those of us who believe in British democracy no alternative but to use the ancient and still usable demand that he face an impeachment trial in Parliament.

There is a simple question for Mr Pope and indeed for all of us, that is posed by Adam Price MP and the impeachblair.org campaign. The question, Mr Pope, is did Blair mislead us more or less than Peter Mandelson and Beverley Hughes?

Here are just a few points:

Tony Blair made 28 statements about Iraq's weapons that were unsupported by the intelligence assessments available to him.

He failed to disclose available counter evidence, or failed to ensure that claims were verified on 12 occasions.

He failed to withdraw material later found to be false.

He entered into an agreement with the US about the consent of the Cabinet, Parliament or the people of the UK.

Based on these charges, there is a clear case for the Prime Minister to answer and that regretfully, the only way to hold him accountable is through proceeding with a motion of impeachment. MPs from all the parties have called for Blair to answer the impeachment.

A full copy of this report can be found at http://www.impeachblair.org and I urge people to read this thoroughly.

And I hope Mr Pope or even Foreign Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw will answer the question.
