A NIGHTCLUB doorman has appeared before Burnley Magistrates charged with murder.

Father-of-one Phillip Powell, 33, also a fitness instructor, is accused of killing Darren Myers, 38, who was allegedly attacked at the Good Night Club, Stanley Street, Nelson, in the early hours of Saturday.

Powell, of Leamington Street, Nelson, was remanded in custody until a preliminary hearing at Preston Crown Court on September 27.

Mr Myers, who had a one-year-old child, was discovered unconscious outside the club at about 1.30am on Saturday.

An ambulance took him to Burnley General Hospital, where he died at 12.20pm the same day with his mother by his bedside. A post mortem examination revealed Mr Myers, who worked at C and C Engineering in Nelson, died from a head injury.

Head doorman Stephen Love, 44, of Rowland Avenue, and ex-bouncer Barry Evanson, 45, of Southfield Square, both Nelson, have both been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice. Love is also accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both were given conditional bail until the same date. Love must live at Rowland Avenue, while his co-defendant has to live at Bracewell Street, Nelson.
