HYNDBURN residents turned out to see plans for the future of their area as the findings of a year-long consultation were revealed.

The Elevate exhibition at Accrington Town Hall was unveiled yesterday, featuring displays of regeneration schemes for Barnfield and Peel, Spring Hill and Scaitcliffe, Oswaldtwistle, Church and West Accrington along with Clayton le Moors and Enfield.

Plans to re-develop areas of Darwen and Nelson under the Government-led Housing Market Renewal project have already come under fire at national level.

Councillor Tony Dobson, portfolio holder for housing at Hyndburn Council, said: "This exciting exhibition is the culmination of 12 months of community engagement and involvement in developing plans for the regeneration of Hyndburn through Elevate - the East Lancashire's Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder.

"It's all about Hyndburn's future and making Hyndburn a better place to live, work and visit. Peoples' views are always welcome and it was a good opportunity for people to have their say."

Hyndburn has already had one successful bid under the umbrella of Hyndburn First worth £14.5 million. This consultation revealed contents of the second bid worth £11million. If successful, work could start in 2006.
