A HEALTH and safety chief at a Ramsbottom quarry has his commitment to environmental management "set in stone".

For Nigel Broxton, health and safety co-ordinator at Marshalls plc, is to receive a coveted British Safety Council diploma in environmental management at an award ceremony in London later this year.

Nigel is delighted to have successfully completed the diploma and will continue to develop and implement initiatives as part of Marshalls' ongoing commitment to health, safety and the environment.

Nigel has already been able to use the knowledge, obtained as a result of completing the diploma, to help Marshalls' Ramsbottom site towards its goal of achieving ISO14001 standard.

This standard forms part of an integrated environmental management system which combines health and safety, quality assurance and environmental initiatives to benefit employees, the local community and, most importantly, the environment.

Nigel is also working with two other sites, Llay and Cannock, to achieve the same certification.

The diploma in environmental management aims to dispel the myths associated with environmental procedures and encourages delegates to establish management systems tailored to their own company's needs.
