A YOUNG mum claims her three-year-old son could have been seriously injured when part of her ceiling fell in.

Crystal Norman, of Victoria Street, Darwen, moved into the house with her two young sons early this year and had noticed a leak and that the toilet was not secure.

On Saturday, plaster and brick from beneath the toilet fell into the living room, hitting eldest son Dylan on the head.

Darwen-based Alan Proctor and Co estate agents, which manages the property, said they had no record of the problem being reported until this weekend and said they contacted Miss Norman immediately yesterday to try to sort out the situation.

Crystal, who also has a two-year-old son, Connor, said she was in the kitchen when the ceiling collapsed at 8.30am on Saturday.

She said: "My three-year-old was playing in his plastic car and had just got out of it when the ceiling fell in. I heard the bang and then a scream. A big lump came up on his head and he's complained of a few headaches since but he was lucky it wasn't worse.

"I was originally told no one could come and fix it until Wednesday and then someone rang me to come round Monday but I was taking my son to nursery at the time.

"We have had to go down the street to my mum's to use the bathroom and I haven't been able to bath my kids at night.

"I'm having to keep them out of the back room as well because I'm frightened it might collapse completely. There's rubble all over the floor."

A spokesman for the company said: "All we can say is that as soon as the tenant lets our contractor into the house we will do the work to repair the problem.

"We rang as soon as we could on a Monday morning but were told we could not go round because the tenant would not be in.

"Everything that we do is logged on our system and there is no record of any leak in the bathroom.

"As soon as she tells us about something, we report if to the landlord, who is a good landlord, and it is dealt with right away."
