POLICE in Rossendale are hunting a man who pulled up at a bus stop and attempted to abduct a 15-year-old girl.

The terrified youngster escaped her attacker when friends spotted her struggling with the man.

The incident happened in Bolton Road North, Edenfield, near to the Shopping Basket last Tuesday, at around 6pm, although police have only now released details.

The man pulled up at the bus stop in dark coloured Honda Accord.

Detective Sergeant Andy Gilbert said: "He told her to get into the car. When she refused he got out and grabbed her, trying to drag her into the car.

"She resisted and screamed. Two friends driving past spotted she was in trouble and pulled up. They challenged the man who then drove off."

Police are warning women to be extra vigilant.

Det Sgt Gilbert added: "I don't want to scare the community but I urge people to make sure they go out in pairs in case this man attempts to strike again. I appeal to anybody who may have information to contact police."

The man is described as Asian, in his 30s, 5ft 5-6ins tall, with a chubby face and stubble.
