SINGERS, stilt-walkers and Tower FM were all on hand to launch the seventh annual Bury Environment Week.
And the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Barry Briggs, set a good example by walking to the Car Free Day which was held on Saturday in Market Place.
It was the first event among many which are taking place across the borough until Sunday, designed to encourage people to save energy, recycle, and generally take better care of the environment.
Events include an all-day environment fair this Saturday at Bury's Castle Leisure Centre, featuring more than 50 stalls and the chance to win a mountain bike.
Motorists are invited to a Green Fuels event at Spring Street car park on Thursday where new "greener" vehicles will be on show.
A lifestyle fair, looking at all aspects of healthy living, is held on Sunday at the Castle Armoury.
Meanwhile, residents are invited to drop into Bury Council's energy show house at 20 Parsonage Street, Bury, where they can swap one normal light bulb for two energy-saving ones.
Programmes listing the full week's events are available from public buildings.
