I RECENTLY attended the Bury East Area Board, and so that other members of the public can be brought up-to-date with where the police priorities lie, I thought I would let everyone know of the contents of the open forum of the evening.

People have complained about the excessive speed of vehicles in all areas of the borough, particularly in Parkhills Road where a police survey had been requested at a previous board meeting. Police response: no survey has been done, this is not a priority area.

People have complained about not being able to take prams and wheelchairs along the pavements because of parked cars. Police response: this is not a priority area.

There have been complaints about car drivers using their horns at all hours of the day and night. One resident reported that this happened while a policeman was in her house but he refused to do anything. Police response: this is not a priority area.

Residents have brought to the attention of the area board, on more than one occasion, that they are aware of drug deals going on. They have described the nature of the deals and the circumstances surrounding the information. Police response: there is no dedicated drug team in Bury and . . . this is not a priority area.

I am sure I am not alone in wondering what exactly is a priority? What are the police doing when they are not attending these incidents, which are causing enough concern to residents that they have to bring them up at an area board meeting?
