A COUNCILLOR has renewed his call for speed cameras in Cliviger despite police cracking down on speeding motorists.

David Heginbotham, reiterated his wish for cameras to be installed after police revealed 25 people were warned about their speed.

During the special operation which was in direct response to residents' concerns , Community Beat Manager Glynn Grey targeted motorists close to schools.

Police said 25 drivers were stopped and warned about their speed but no tickets were issued because motorists were travelling under the threshold for issuing a ticket.

And today police warned motorists in future anyone found speeding will be fined and issued with penalty points.

Coun Heginbotham said: "We want the police to continue their work as it is paramount for the borough there is safety on the roads."
