VANDALS have ripped up goalposts in Elms Park, Whitefield.

The football pitch, which is home to Stand Athletic and a number of other teams, has been regularly targeted by youngsters ripping up the posts.

Mr Tony Airey, secretary of Stand Athletic, which manages the council pitch, said: "The goalposts have been ripped out six times in recent weeks.

"It is causing us great inconvenience to get hold of council contractors to put them back in place. On a couple of occasions they have been dug back into the ground on a morning, only to be ripped up again by the evening.

"The police have been informed and sooner or later the culprits will be caught. It is costing the council, and therefore the council taxpayer, every time it happens."
