TOASTMASTER Elissa Baker brought order to a family in Australia when she took part in the Channel 4 series Wife Swap.

As the first female toastmaster in the North west, Elissa (40) has everything under control - both at work and at home!

But when husband Steven (46) volunteered her for the popular TV programme, Elissa found she had to change places with a woman who had little understanding of the word "clean."

The busy mother-of-two, who works at Halifax bank in the Longfield Centre, Prestwich, spent two weeks in the Melbourne suburbs living with the Dingle family.

For the first part of the challenge she took on the role of mum Tanya, looking after six children and a menagerie of animals, while in the second week she was able to add her personal touch to the household.

And for Elissa, that meant bringing in the industrial cleaners!

She said: "The family lived on an estate where the houses are worth between £500,000 and £1 million but they lived like the Clampetts. The dogs were allowed to treat the house like a toilet and there were no cleaning products at all. Tanya's husband Tony was a male chauvinist and at one point he threatened to headbutt me because I made the dog go outside after it had made a mess on the carpet."

As soon as she could, Elissa had the house cleaned from top to bottom and treated one of the dogs to a day at the doggie parlour.

"Only then was I able to sit in my dressing gown and relax," she said.

Back in England, earth-mother Tanya found it difficult to keep up with Elissa's regime of chores, two jobs and three nights at the gym and she point-blank refused a trip to the beauty salon.

Elissa said: "I was portrayed as a hygiene freak but my husband and children all like to keep things clean and tidy. I am just an average British citizen who is proud of her home. Tanya was also determined to find fault with my lifestyle and questioned why I was away from the home so much. She said Steven was henpecked and suggested he stood up for himself."

Elissas experience will be shown on Tuesday at 9pm and is one of only two international Wife Swaps filmed by Channel 4.

She and Steven have no regrets about taking part in the programme but Elissa admitted she was a little apprehensive about seeing how her family would be portrayed on television.

She said: "The people who know me, know how I really am. I am a professional lady and I remained like that the entire time."
