ACCRINGTON Stanley striker Paul Mullin has urged supporters to keep faith in the system.

The current 4-5-1 formation, which leaves Mullin operating as a lone striker, has come under the microscope in recent weeks, with Stanley only earning five points from a possible 21.

But leading scorer Mullin, who has netted eight times this season, believes it can still be a fruitful formula.

"A lot has been said about the way we play with one up front, but we showed last year it works," he said.

"It got us to the third round of the FA Cup and this season we've already had a couple of high-scoring wins in the league.

"It's down to the players to make it work.

"I played it for most of last season and it suits my game. We have players who are good enough to play in the system and support me and it worked really well against Oldham the other night."

And after three games without a goal, Mullin is confident it won't be long before he gets back in the scoring groove to end Stanley's disappointing run of results.

"There's only Barnet's Grazioli that's scored more then me and Ian Craney and Lee McEvilly have weighed in with goals too so we have it in the team, we just have to get down to it and work hard in training," he said.

"We need to try and get some confidence back because that's a massive part of the game. But the run has to come to an end at some time because we've got too good a squad for it to continue."
