THE annual Poppy Appeal has been launched in the borough.

Residents young and old are being urged to wear them with pride and remember not just those who died in worldwide wars and conflicts during the last century but those injured or currently in hostile environments fighting for peace and freedom.

For the next two weeks, scores of people will be selling the poppies on the streets or in shops with all the proceeds going to the work of the Royal British Legion which helps support former and serving soldiers and their families.

The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Barry Briggs launched the annual Poppy Appeal.
