SURVIVING heroes from both world wars were taking part in a special remembrance procession at Calderstones NHS Trust headquarters today.

During both wars the Whalley-based hospital was taken over and used as a military infirmary to nurse wounded soldiers.

The ex-servicemen were being joined by Graham Parr, chairman and Russ Pearce, chief executive of Calderstones, the mayor and mayoress of Ribble Valley and residents from Whalley and Clitheroe.

The veterans, accompanied by the Balderstone Brass Band, were to begin their journey at 10.20am with a parade around the hospital grounds before taking the salute.

A church service was to be held in the St Luke's Centre before a procession to Whalley's military cemetery.
