Leigh RMI 2 Tamworth 3 By David Magilton: ANOTHER devastating defeat left Leigh at rock bottom in terms of both position and confidence.

A hat-trick inside 10 minutes from former Bolton Wanderers favourite Bob Taylor did the damage.

It inspired Tamworth to a remarkable comeback after RMI had cruised to a 2-0 interval lead.

A hugely disappointed assistant manager Gary Kelly said: "We put ourselves in a good position, but you have to keep battling no matter who you are playing against to achieve a result.

"We didn't do that and it is down to the players. We have given ourselves a superb platform to go on and win the game so why haven't we won it? We haven't won it because they did not have the control, passion and desire to win.

"We have given the players the perfect preparation but they have let us down again. We have let so many points slip away and instead of closing the gap we find ourselves bottom."

It had all started so promisingly for the Railwaymen who dominated against a poorly performing Tamworth and grabbed two goals.

The first came with their first attack of the game in the seventh minute when Chris Lane put Gary Mitchell away and his cross found the unmarked Lee Connell, and the former Bury midfielder celebrated his home league debut by heading home.

RMI increased the lead in the 26th minute when Andy Roscoe's corner was headed on by Karl Rose to the unmarked Williams, who cracked the ball home. It finally looked as if things were going Leigh's way and they were heading for only their second Conference success of the season, but Tamworth had other ideas.

It was a much improved Tamworth that came out after the break and the Railwaymen could not handle them. Their first goal came in the 65th minute when Taylor fired home from 20 yards. Three minutes later and he grabbed the equaliser when Leigh keeper Paul Crichton completely misjudged a Marcus Ebdon corner and Taylor scrambled it home.

The striker grabbed his sixth goal of the season and his hat-trick in the 75th minute when sloppy defending allowed a cross to find Taylor unmarked at the far post and he coolly nodded it over the keeper.

Leigh's scheduled Marsden Lancs Cup match with Marine on Tuesday night has been postponed because the Northern Premier League side are involved in an FA Trophy replay. No new date has yet been agreed.
