THREE parks in Burnley and Padiham have left others green with envy after picking up a prestigious award.
Thompson and Queen's parks in Burnley, and Memorial Park, Padiham, are among 80 North West parks to achieve Green Flags.
It means Burnley Council has gone one better than last year, when only Thompson and Memorial parks achieved the awards, similar to the Blue Flags awarded to outstanding beaches.
The awards mean Thompson Park has received the honour six years in a row and Memorial five times on the trot.
Coun Colette Bailey, the council's executive member with responsibility for parks, said: "These successes are due to the hard work of council parks staff and friends' groups who work together to make these parks wonderful places to visit."
Chair of Thompson and Queen's Park Friends' group Val Venn said: "This is great. The parks are a wonderful asset."
The award scheme rewards excellent standards of park management and is the national standard for parks and green spaces. It is managed by the Civic Trust.
Office of the Deputy Prime Minister official, Phil Hope, will present the Green Flag Awards in Preston on November 18.
