EAST Lancashire became the focus of political attention when the Tory party leader visited the area to address the concerns of small businesses.
Michael Howard visited Colne and Rawtenstall as part of a tour of the two towns. It was the area's second visit this year after Mr Howard visited Burnley nine months ago.
After arriving at Colne Police Station, Mr Howard was chaperoned by local officers through the town. He said the main reason for the visit was to look at the challenges faced by businesses and to meet with traders who have been victims of crime.
Speaking as he left the town centre, Mr Howard said: "I was delighted to come and see the good work happening in Colne and Rawtenstall. There are a number of people working hard to bring people together and to improve the lives of people in the towns and I am very impressed.
"The issues of Colne and Rawtenstall are no different to anywhere else in the country, but we feel our pledge of 1,000 extra police officers in Lancashire would help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour problems."
