THOUSANDS of real-ale fans are expected in Accrington next week for the town's 10th annual beer festival.

More than 80 ales, bottled beers and ciders will be available at the event, organised by Hyndburn Borough Council and the East Lancashire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

It is held over four days, starting on Wednesday, November 17, in Accrington Town Hall and includes live music and food.

Nigel Green, marketing and events officer in Hyndburn Council's leisure services department, said: "The festival has built up a good reputation over the years - it really has gone from strength to strength. There is always a good selection of ales from the all the country, bottled lagers from all over the world and cider."

Councillor Brian Walmsley, portfolio holder for leisure, added: "I have no doubt that this event will be a huge success again. The festival attracts a lot of people to the town which is a good thing."

Afternoon sessions, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, are from noon to 3pm, and evening sessions on every day of the festival are from 6pm to 11pm, apart from Thursday when it starts at 6.30pm because of the Christmas lights switch-on.
