A 67-YEAR-OLD woman was attacked by two thieves in broad daylight in Whitefield.

She was walking from Manor Avenue along Dunkirk Road towards Green Lane on Thursday at 2.30pm when she was approached by two men.

They demanded money, but the victim told them she did not have any.

One of the robbers pulled out a pen knife and threatened the pensioner.

He then punched her in the face and fearing for her safety, she emptied her purse all over the ground and ran off.

The woman suffered bruising to the left cheek and was left very shaken by what happened.

She ran to the nearby medical centre and raised the alarm.

One of the offenders is described as white, late teens to early 20s, 5ft 2in, with brown mousey hair.

He was wearing a navy blue waxed jacket.

Any witnesses are urged to contact PC Jeff Lyons in the Bury Robbery Unit on 0161 856 8093 or Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111.
