A NEW preparatory school at the independent Oakhill College, Whalley, has been officially opened.

The new £750,000 building, which will cater for 100 children, opened 12 months ago after three years of planning and fundraising by governors, teachers and parents.

The purpose-built unit has IT facilities and a science laboratory, as well as eight classrooms.

It was officially opened by Prof Lord David Alton, Sheriff of Merseyside. The building was also blessed by a Catholic priest.

The school's former preparatory classrooms are now used to teach music, drama, art and design.
