A TODDLER was burned after louts hurled a firework at him. The three-year-old boy was walking with his mother when a firework thrown from a parked car exploded at his feet and burned his left cheek.

The car was then driven away.

Police today made an appeal in the hunt for two men who were seen sitting in the white car which was parked on Clifton Street, Bury.

The attack happened near to the junction with Walmersley Road at 6.50pm on Friday as the boy and his 33-year-old mother were walking to a relative's house. He was taken to Fairfield General Hospital and then transferred to Booth Hall Children's Hospital. He was discharged on Friday night after receiving treatment.

The boy's mother was not injured.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "As the boy and his mother walked past the car the driver was sitting with the door open and as they got further away the firework was thrown.

"The family have obviously been left very shocked by this incident but luckily the boy wasn't seriously injured.

"The consequences of this incident could have been much worse. All we know at the moment is that the car was white and it had retracting headlights.

"It is believed to have had two people inside. We would ask anyone who can help us find these people to get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone who may have seen the car parked in the area is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8150 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
