A NEW community drop-in centre for residents of Burnley Wood has officially opened.

The centre, in Branch Road, is a joint venture between Accent North West Ltd and Burnley Wood Community Action Group.

Organisers said it was proving to be a popular and useful resource for the community of Burnley Wood.

The team opened the centre to local children over the recent school holidays, providing opportunities for safe play and access to computers.

It has also successfully lobbied the council and other agencies to secure funding towards the building of a new community park in Burnley Wood.

The official launch of the centre was marked by a drop in lunch for partners in the community, such as police, councillors, community wardens and other community groups.

The public opening will be on Saturday with residents from Burnley Wood invited.

There will be free competitions, refreshments and Santa giving away gifts for youngsters.

Accent North West owns and manages more than 4,500 homes in the north west region.

It is part of Accent Group, a national Community Investment Organisation working to enhance the quality of life and opportunities enjoyed by local people through the provision and management of appropriate housing, community facilities and support services
