BURNLEY today secured the services of James O'Connor for a further two months.

The West Bromwich Albion midfielder played the final game of his initial one-month loan in Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 win over Millwall.

But boss Steve Cotterill, who hailed the victory as "an unbelievable result", has now confirmed that O'Connor will now remain at Turf Moor until the end of January.

Cotterill said: "I have spoken to (West Brom manager) Bryan Robson and he was very, very obliging. We have now got James for three months, so we thank him very much for that because we need all the help we can get and we certainly need all the bodies we can get."

O'Connor, who had previously hinted at an extended deal, also claims he would be interested in a permanent Turf Moor switch.

Meanwhile, the Clarets rose to their highest league position of the season following the weekend win over Millwall.

Skipper Robbie Blake scored the only goal of the game for the third match in a row to propel the Clarets to eighth in the Championship.

The latest victory was again achieved despite a hefty injury list, with five first team regulars still sidelined and every fit player on duty.

And Cotterill, who has a genuine chance of being named Championship manager of the month after four wins in five league games in November, fears that unless he can get some of his injured stars back soon, the Clarets luck will run out.

He added: "We have done okay without the injured lads and maybe we should keep them in the treatment room a bit longer. But seriously, we need all the boys back because we are pushing our luck really.

"Mark Yates was on the bench again when he didn't want to be, so great credit has to go to the lads who are playing because they are generating a fantastic spirit."
