THE "parking controversy" in Bury has received a lot of bad publicity, some of which has not been justified. If cars are parked illegally and their drivers get a ticket, then what is the problem?
On a recent shopping trip to Bury I saw someone getting a ticket for parking on double yellow lines outisde the markets office. They deserved it.
But behind this car, and also parked illegally, was the mayor's official car. When the parking attendant was challenged about this she said that she had called her supervisor and been told not to book the driver.
Perhaps someone from the town hall can explain to me why I have to pay £15 to park outside my own house, yet the mayor can park where he likes for free - and never gets a parking ticket!
