RE the continued debate regarding the suitability of Platform 4 on Blackburn Railway Station.
Surely the debate should be about the remainder of the station.
When the station was remodelled platforms 1 and 2 were earmarked the heart of operations and the booking office, waiting room, toilets and information office were sited on these platforms, plus a passenger lift.
In the event, these platforms are used almost exclusively for east-bound traffic and west-bound on the contentious number 4 platform which we were informed was to be exclusively for emergencies.
Picture the scene, passengers for west-bound trains make their way to platforms 1/2 to book tickets, then retrace their footsteps via two steep slopes to reach Platform 4, a journey which obviously is very difficult for the elderly and manual wheelchair users.
In my opinion the debate regarding Platform 4 is completely superfluous and emphasis should be on using the station as it was originally intended, using platform 2 for west-bound trains.
