STEVE Cotterill hailed the 1-0 win over Liverpool as his "best night ever in the FA Cup".

Burnley earned a fourth round tie at home to Bournemouth thanks to a thrilling victory over Liverpool last night courtesy of a Djimi Traore own goal.

And the Clarets chief had words of praise for every one of his players after digging out a memorable victory.

Cotterill said: "This is probably my best night in the FA Cup. It doesn't get better than beating a team with the quality of Liverpool, so it was a great night for the club and we are delighted with our boys because they were excellent.

"I thought we were the better side in the first half and showed good attacking flair but unfortunately we didn't have any goals to show for that.

"After the break they were the better team and the players responsible for that attacking flair wilted a little as the game went on.

"In the second half we just had to dig deep and hang on in there and my heart was beating like a drum with 20 minutes to go.

"I was trying to call a player from two minutes away, but it was a waste of time in the end because I'd lost my voice!"

Burnley bossed much of the game against the Premiership side, who included several fringe players to compliment the experience of many first team regulars.

And Cotterill reckoned the names on the Liverpool team sheet only served to pile the

pressure on his own players as they pulled off a memorable cup shock.

He added: "It was physically and mentally demanding on that pitch. There were a lot of tired legs and you need a lot of mental strength to play against a team like this, because there was a bit of expectancy to win the game, even though we were playing Liverpool.

"When people see that Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher or players like that are not playing, the expectancy level rises.

"But we have a few leaders and they showed good qualities at different times last night.

"You don't just need leadership qualities to battle and head it out of the box. You need to have the balls to have the ball in front of 20,000 people when the pressure is on and to be fair to our boys they did that."

Chief executive Dave Edmundson beamed: "The groundstaff did a magnificent job and Steve Cotterill and the team did a wonderful job on Liverpool.

"A lot of the fans class that as one of the greatest nights in Burnley's history. We were better than Liverpool on the night and we deserved that 1-0 win."
