I WOULD be obliged if I may most gratefully thank the public for their generosity in supporting the 2004 Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal for Bury, Walshaw and Tottington.
We have raised in excess of £26,500, which is an increase on the £25,000 raised the previous year.
I would also like to praise my willing group of volunteers - sadly dwindling - who each year, and despite the weather, turn out in support of the Appeal.
I hope that this year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, our collections will reach an all-time high and it is not too early for volunteers to offer their services for 2005. They may write to me at Wellington Barracks, Bolton Road, Bury.
LT. COL. (RET) ERIC
W. DAVIDSON.
honorary appeal organiser.
